Why John McCain Cannot Lose

While the polling data on the presidential race is all over the place, with every poll of which I am aware showing Barack Obama ahead of his Republican opponent from anywhere between one to 14 percentage points, I would still be very surprised if the Illinois senator prevails.

I believe, against the conventional wisdom, that John McCain will be our next president.

Over the last 22 months, more than enough revelations concerning the real Obama have strongly suggested that he is a man who wants to be, not -- as he has tried to style himself -- a president who happens to be black, but a black president.

With the exception of white left-wing ideologues for whom America is and always has been a place in which “racism,” “sexism,” “homophobia,” and “xenophobia” have been prevalent, and who think that America’s traditions of economic freedom (“capitalism”) are hostile to “Equality,” most white people, justifiably enough, do not want their president to be a person who considers himself black before he considers himself American.

Several considerations have led many white Americans to conclude that Obama is not the “trans-racial unifier” that he once purported to be -- a presidential candidate that happens to be black. Here are some of the more significant ones:
  1. Obama’s 20-year relationship with his pastor and “spiritual mentor,” Jeremiah Wright, a man whose anti-American, anti-white sermons are logical expressions of the “Black Liberation Theology” in which his church is saturated
  2. The jubilant endorsement of Obama by the American-hating, white-hating black supremacist Louis Farrakhan whose “Million Man March Obama” attended and on whom Obama’s pastor bestowed a Lifetime Achievement Award
  3. Obama’s friendship with Father Michael Pfleger, another admirer and ally of Farrakhan and Wright, who was videotaped mocking Hillary Clinton while asserting that she believed she had a racial entitlement over Obama to bear her party’s presidential nomination
  4. Obama’s close working alliance with Bill Ayers, the “unrepentant terrorist” who orchestrated bombings of the Pentagon, Capital Building, and police stations -- bombings that resulted in the loss of innocent life.
  5. Obama’s time spent as a “community organizer” a capacity in which he worked closely with ACORN, an organization that has routinely engaged in intimidation tactics in order to pressure banks to lend credit to unqualified mortgage applicants -- especially minority applicants.
  6. And no one should ever forget Obama’s “A More Perfect Union” speech, the speech in which he attempted to control the damage caused by Jeremiah Wright by implying some moral equivalence between his American-bashing, black nationalist pastor and his white maternal grandmother, the one person in his life who made enormous sacrifices so that he could have the opportunities that he eventually went on to enjoy. In fact, he was actually harder on his own grandmother than he was his “spiritual mentor.”
To this list of facts we could effortlessly add many others that would only buttress the image that they yield: “Obama the radical leftist.”

More recently, Jack Murtha reinforced the perception that today’s Democratic Party holds “Middle American” whites in very low esteem when he implied that his own constituents, the white people of Pennsylvania, were “racist” and “redneck.” As Obama himself said, white Pennsylvanians “cling” to religion and their Second Amendment rights, and harbor “antipathy” toward those who are “unlike them” (read: they are “racist” and, well … “redneck.”).

“Joe the Plumber” has put a face to the bitter, antipathetic, racist, redneck American of whom Murtha and Obama speak. Unfortunately for them, it is this kind of American upon whom their victory vitally depends.

Finally, as the presidential race draws to a close, charges of “racism” against Obama’s critics have proliferated. The charges are transparent attempts to deflect legitimate criticism from Obama while bullying people into voting for him. This bully tactic no doubt has worked in the past, but never before has it been attempted in circumstances at all like those in which we currently find ourselves.

Mark my words: it will backfire this time around. Whites of good will are tired of being maligned by leftists, both black and white, who brand them as “racists,” and they most certainly are not going to stand for it when the charge comes from the surrogates of a man who wants to be their president. It is all too reasonable to suspect that such charges, numerous as they may be now, are only a sneak preview of what is to come should he actually become president.

As long as Americans bear these considerations in mind (and I am confident they will), polls be damned! On Election Day McCain will be the last man standing, and Obama and his supporters will have no one to blame but themselves.
