A List of President Barack Obama's Czars

In 2009, President Barack Obama came under fire from conservatives for naming a startling number of newly created administration positions. Only a fraction of the president's new "czars" received Senate confirmation. Most were appointed positions. While several of these were positions held over from the previous administration, most were new. The one's that weren't saw their roles redefined and in many cases expanded. Obama looked to previous administrations for this type of "appointable" position. For example, at least one of the newly created positions was revived from the Clinton era. Although he continues to expand the number of czars in his administration, it took him just nine months to created more appointed positions than any president in history.
