The Relevance of Ron Paul

Thursday February 7, 2008
Texas Congressman Ron Paul debates in California on Jan. 30, 2008

You have to admire Ron Paul's spririt.

For all his hard work and tenacity, he's only managed to muster a few delegates and no primary or caucus wins in any state. Even former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who placed third on Super Tuesday, won six states and appears to be making a small comeback as the Mitt Romney camp "reassesses" its tough second-place showing.

Ron Paul, on the other hand, has no intention of reassessing. In fact, the Texas Congressman is already talking about his home state's primary on March 4. According to Paul's web site, the candidate's campaign manager Lew Moore said delegates, not states, are the focus of the Ron Paul 2008 campaign.

“The number of delegates we won yesterday (Feb. 5) could very well be the difference in a Convention where no one has a first-ballot majority," Moore said in a press release issued by the Paul campaign. "With Dr. Paul’s home state of Texas coming up, we feel we can enter the convention with a substantial number of delegates.”

Pundits are divided over the impact Paul's candidacy has had on the other campaigns. Some say he has hit Romney hardest; others say Paul is taking delegates away from Huckabee. We know for sure however, that Paul's presence has had no adverse effects on the front-running Arizona Sen. John McCain, who is trying hard to appeal to social and religious conservatives (I plan to take a closer look at that situation tomorrow, so be sure to check back).

In an effort to unify the conservative vote and keep McCain off balance, Romney recently called on Huckabee to step down, but didn't even hint that Ron Paul leave the race. Romney knows better. After all, Paul has made it abundantly clear that between now and Sept. 1, he has no intentions of going anywhere but the Republican National Convention. There's a chance Paul will change his mind when he sees the results of the final GOP primaries on June 3, but it's slim.

Which means Romney, Huckabee and McCain had better get used to having Ron Paul around. For better or worse, it looks like he's here to stay.

The media tries to pretend that Ron Paul does not exist. The media should not choose our next president. Ron Paul has a lot more support then everyone wants to admit. I live in AZ and was not able to vote for him in our Primary because of our state rules (that’s right I can’t vote for who I want). There have also been stories of his name being “accidentally left off the ballot” and people making up statements that he has dropped out of the campaign. THE GOVERNMENT IS AFRAID OF A CANDIDATE LIKE RON PAUL. HE SUPPORTS THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY AND OUR RIGHTS. How could anyone really vote for someone who thinks that we should be in Iraq for the next 100 years? Then on to Iran? How many more people have to die for special interests? If we actually needed our troops in the U.S. we wouldn’t even have any available to protect us. They are all in other countries where they should not be. Bring our troops home and protect our borders. Why even waste anymore time? We do not have the right to be the police of the world nor should we. We our destroying our own economy by fighting wars that we can’t win.

Our Government prints money out of thin air and borrows more from other countries then we can ever pay back which is killing us and the value of our dollar is rapidly dropping. Do you really think that the government brainwashed zombies and liars have done a good job with our country so far? Bush has been one of the worst presidents in history. You all fell for his BS. He used the emotions of our country after 9/11 to put us in a war that benefits him, his friends, and his family members. Why allow them to throw us further down? Fighting wars that can never be won and wasting our hard earned money on their special interests. The companies that get bids to do jobs in countries where we are at war, they get over paid, and the money trail always comes back to people in the Government that are in some way affiliated with that company.

ACCORDING TO THE CONSTITUTION THE GOVERNMENT HAS NO RIGHT TO TAX US. THEY TAKE OUR MONEY AND USE IT FOR THEIR INTERESTS. THEY SPEND OUR TAX MONEY ON WHATEVER THEY WANT. Then they want to send us a small check to keep us quiet. Its time for us all to stand up for ourselves and fight this!!!

IT IS TIME FOR EVERY CITIZEN IN THIS COUNTRY TO COME TOGETHER AND STOP ALLOWING OUR GOVERNMENT TO TREAT US LIKE SLAVES. RON PAUL IS THE ONLY CANDIDATE THAT CARES ABOUT YOU.

Ron Paul has OBVIOUSLY had an affect on McCain, beating him in several states including NEVADA, WYOMING, ALASKA, MONTANA, and delegates are up for grabs with close calls that are YET to be determined in several states. There are also a lot of neck-and-neck races out there too where McCain only beats Paul by a couple percentage points…and this with Romney, Huckabee, and others on the ballot taking votes that would go to Paul WELL BEFORE they would go to McCain.

Thank you for publishing the article by Justin Quinn entitled “The Relevance of Ron Paul.” Some of us who have been studying the GOP situation closely have concluded that Dr. Paul is Probably the best situated candidate for winning the nomination and then the presidency for a variety of reasons. Many of us are highly doubtful of John McCain’s ability to elude a major disgorgement of collected remains from his proverbial closet until the convention takes place. Also, the endorsements of The American Conservative Magazine and CPAC bode well for the survival of the Paul campaign. I feel that the majority of conservatives have concluded as I have, that the aspirations of John McCain, given the realities of the situation have no basis for optimism. The voting block consisting of Ron Paul revolutionaries, conservative republicans, sundry third party anti war advocates and disenchanted and disenfranchised democrats all voting for the only peace candidate is infinitely more palatable than a candidate relying only on a crumbling liberal republican base. A GOP leadership, loath to be held up to ridicule and a long to be remembered GWB fiasco of an administration, will not in all seriousness be able to proffer a McCain candidacy. The ruling oligopoly cannot risk having their two party myth so dangerously exposed as it would invite outright rebellion of the electorate, not to mention millions of motivated, irate, disenfranchised Ron Paul revolutionaries, whose champion has suffered continual abuse at the hands of the media and state election officials, only to arise above it all and keep on tickin’. Also, the GOP must be jealousy eyeing the hordes of democrats who would abandon their own party’s version of same ol’, same ol’ in favor of someone who has shown, through word and deed that he is committed to ending the carnage and violations of civility that have lately comprised our foreign and domestic policy. This, compared to the strengthening of the GOP base thet Paul’s candidacy would facilitate mitigate heavily for the hubris heretofore exhibited by the GOP coming to an end.
Of course, time will tell, and once again thank you for your vision in recognizing the candidate who may just draw America back from the brink of ignonomy and fascism. C. Davis

Congressman Ron Paul has been treated very badly by the republican party bosses. If the party had respect for Dr. Paul the media would have provided equal coverage. We will see if the democrat party bosses will do the same thing to Barack Obama once they realize he is becoming a force to reckon with. There is one big difference between Paul and Obama, that is Ron Paul does not wish to be part of any political party machinery that manipulates the government and media for it’s own gain at the expense of the very citizens that gave it power. Obama supporters should ask what debts Barack will have to his party bosses. Of course once power has shifted from the people to the government fully, there will be no dissent and thus no free society.

I have had the easiest time who to choose to vote for.

What is the ONE COMPELLING reason to vote for your candidate?

Interesting.

Well, Ron Paul wants to cut gov’t spending to 1997 levels which would eliminate the need for personal income tax.

Would that make your life better personally?

Then vote Ron Paul.

Also, turn on your news. Did it just mention only two Republican candidates running? I wonder why they are LYING?

Food for thought.

Dr.Ron Paul is the only candidate that follows the Constitution, and the letter of the law. He is the only candidate that truly represents the will of the people. Dr.Paul is the only candidate that understands the blight this country is in financially, and the only candidate that understands how to get us out of this financial blight by returning us to a stable monetary system of gold, instead of the fiat system(money that is backed by nothing and worthless)that we are now using. Dr.Paul also realizes that we (the United States)have no business policing the world,we don’t have that right to inflict our ideals upon the world. The Constitution is our guide as to how to run a republic.Every person in politics need to take a lesson on the Constitution from Dr.Paul.
