We have updated the competitive listing of the 23 US Senate seats that the Democrats have to defend in 2012.
Michigan has been removed from the Safe Hold territory to the competitive map after former congressman Pete Hoekstra led incumbent Debbie Stabenow in 2 late August polls. In 2010, Republicans won 9 of 15 congressional race, the governor's mansion, and statewide races for secretary of state and attorney general.
Ohio moved up a couple of slots as every new poll shows young Republican upstart Josh Mandel polling better and better with every passing week. As voter gets to know him, the competitiveness of the race improves. He has gone from trailing by double digits, to having two ties and one 1-point deficit in three recent polls.
One race has been downgraded for the Republicans. Missouri ranked has the 2nd-most likely pickup for the GOP in 2012, but the Akin controversy has dropped the race into toss-up land or possibly even leaning toward the Democrat.
