Is Obama's recent Illegal Immigration order a move to prevent Marco Rubio from becoming Mitt Romney's pick for vice-president?
Conservatives were already 50/50 on Marco Rubio's version of the Dream Act, but Rubio has remained on the top of most polls when it comes to become the GOP vice-presidential nominee. (Read Potential VP Selections). ). Though details of Rubio's plan are not fully completed, the Obama move is at least somewhat similar to Rubio's version. Obviously, if Rubio is the pick that leaves an opening for Obama to point out that his policy would basically do what Rubio wants to do, so how can it be that bad? The timing of this release seems to suggest that Obama does not want Rubio as the VP pick and is hoping this prevents that from happening. After all, why drop this bombshell this early when excitement over it will certainly fade by election time?
On the other hand, the move could backfire. If Marco Rubio releases his plan and it is acceptable to conservatives, he could actually use the Obama order as a stepping stone to passing that law over the left's full-blown amnesty version. While liberals have dismissed Rubio's outline, it would be much harder to do now that Obama has essentially embraced a certain portion of it.

the dream act sounds like a nice way for the youngsters to remain but what about the mothers and especially the fathers of those children who have already been deported? Will there ever be any relief for them or me? Being in the states for over 45 years legally should entitle you to something even with a 13 year old non-violent felony. The United States has become heartless in their deportation process. As several ICE agents once said, WE DO WHAT WE WANT…….(chicago). Who gives them all this authority and who knows about the misuse of it all.People should know….My life has been destroyed and basically terminated in the states. sadless to say judge shiela mcnolty found it fit to disconsider many factors….Oh well, just another case….
Hi Dustin –
Rubio on the Obama Executive Order: “I like it.” Enough said.
“If Marco Rubio releases his plan and it is acceptable to conservatives, he could actually use the Obama order as a stepping stone to passing that law over the left’s full-blown amnesty version.”
Conservatives actually like it? What would that possibly look like? Anything that Marco Rubio proposed that was to the left of Obama’s Executive Order would be met with … what from conservatives? Surely not approval.
BTW, it appears thqat you have deleted/rewritten this entire blog post.
Mitt is no betting man like John McCain. His safest choice is still Rob Portman, and he will pick him soon enough.
In the meantime, Mitt will continue to tease the others, along the path laid out by Queen Elizabeth for broadening support 500 years ago. The shrewd Queen used the interests of her many suitors then to transform a fledgling country into the powerhouse of Europe.
Yes, the VP sweepstakes demand shrewdness — but also give us a chance to see if the candidate can navigate the country. The process has presented a wealth of opportunities for Mitt thus far and he has made the most of them.
Not bad.
