Kerwick's Corner: The Debate We Should Have Heard

Tuesday October 14, 2008
Barack Obama, left, shakes hands with John McCain before the second presidential debate

Most conservatives agree that Republican presidential nominee John McCain outpointed his Democratic rival, Barack Obama, at last week's second presidential debate at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn.

To say McCain overwhelmingly "won," however, would be to be overly charitable to the Arizona Senator. Although he had more energy than his younger opponent and seemed to have a better grasp of the issues, McCain clearly left many points on the table.

In this week's "Kerwick's Corner," About.com guest writer Jack Kerwick takes a look at the debate and offers his opinion on how McCain should have responded to Obama's narcissism, deception, meaningless rhetoric and scandalous lies regarding the troops.

From the column:

The second presidential debate last Tuesday was, at best, uneventful. It isn’t that McCain “lost,” whatever this could mean in the age of nationally televised political “debates.” In fact, he appeared both more relaxed and energized than Obama. Still, there was a goldmine of opportunities that he passed up.

The comment’s very beginning tells the true story. Most Conservatives. We most conservatives and some liberals just care about the label. Not the county or the facts. The Fact is Most Americans thought Obama won, and like the man said he’s not in it for, as you guy put it, The Prize. He is in it for US!

I have come to realize this election is not McCain vs. Obama. It has come down to my way of thinking, living, believing vs. theirs. I have come to understand it is not only McCain Palin that is fighting Obama it needs to be me. I need to stand up and declare what I desire for my nation, state, city, home, and my life. It is up to me not to give up but to fight so I am going to pronounce my support for McCain tonight after the debate. No matter how the debate goes. He has my support. I will be sending every TV local and national networks my voice. I will take a stand today.
