Kerwick's Corner: Hands Down, Gloves Off, Sarah Palin Does More Than Just Win a Debate

She Teaches McCain a Valuable Lesson

As we look forward to tonight's debate between Republican presidential nominee John McCain and his rival Barack Obama, there is lingering discussion about the ultimate victor of Thursday night's debate between McCain's running-mate, Sarah Palin, and Obama's running-mate, Joe Biden.

In giving the victory to Palin, About.com guest writer Jack Kerwick shares a few thoughts about how she did it ... and what McCain can learn as he formulates his plan for tonight.

From the column:

... What matters is not who “won”; what matters is that Palin went some distance in dismantling the negative image of her that members of the so-called “mainstream media” have been so busy trying to create. She went toe-to-toe with a seasoned Washington politician who has been in this game for nearly 75 percent of the time that Palin has been alive, and she did not cede any ground, proving to the nation that she promises to be a formidable opponent to any Washington “insider” or left-leaning Democratic journalist who is invested in undermining her.

“She insisted on controlling the terms of the debate, expressly telling both Biden and Ifill that she would answer questions not as they wanted for her to, but in terms that she felt would resonate most readily with ‘the American people.’”

What a load of garbage. Sarah Palin didn’t “control” the terms of the debate, she would just ignore legitimate questions and spout off memorized platitudes and talking points. Her performance was average at best, which isn’t surprising considering how she keeps advertising her mediocrity as though that somehow makes her qualified to be Vice President. Jack Kerwick should be embarrassed for engaging in such partisan hackery.

Thank goodness McCain and Palin are finally taking off the gloves. Like millions of Americans I’ve awaited the truth, while feeling frustration watching Obama get a free ride. Subjects like Wright, Farrakhan, Pfleger, Rezko, Ayers, and others, seem to have been off limits for discussion, when they go to the core of who Obama is. In defense of Obama, the media treats him like a sacred cow, and implies that since these subjects were visited at one time, they’re not fair game to revisit … but, why not? Like millions of Americans I’ve never been comfortable with Obama attending Jeremiah Wright’s church for TWENTY YEARS … suddenly quitting for political expediency, and then claiming that he never heard the racist, anti-American sermons going on there. Also, the Trintity church website has since sanitized it’s previous links on the ‘Black Values System’ … and, the ‘Black Liberation Theology’ which Obama sworn an oath to for TWENTY YEARS.

All I am going to say is i am tired of all the (Old white protestant ideas that the conservatieves always bring to the the table. They never bring any thing new. One I am not white and two I am not protestant. Who the hell are these republicans to tell me what i am and what is best for the nation. John Mccain has never had to work his way from the bottom up (Rich Boy) the way black, hispanics, asians, or any other ethnic group has. You wana talk racism? Where have you been the past thirty years? We need some one who understands poor, middle, and rich. Not just wealthy.) The tables are turning no matter who wins. conservatives are a dying breed and so is their old protestan ideology. Out with the old and in with the new.
