Conservatives Take on Hollywood Liberalism with An American Carol

Friday August 22, 2008

It was only a matter of time, but the day will officially arrive on Oct. 3, 2008.

That's when the landmark David Zucker film, An American Carol, will officially mark the "coming-out" party of the conservative movement in Hollywood ... if you'll excuse the expression.

Besides Zucker's directorial debut as a conservative, the film offers performances from the usual Hollywood conservatives like Kelsey Grammar, James Woods and Jon Voigt, but there are some surprises as well. Chris Farley's brother, Kevin Farley, has the lead role in the film and is supported by "Naked Gun" star Leslie Nielsen, musician Trace Adkins, comedian David Allen Grier, '80s sitcom star Gary Coleman and ... are you ready for this? Dennis Hopper.

That's right ... one of the key figures in the 1960s counter-culture movement is appearing in a film deriding Hollywood's left-wing contingent and spoofing the king of tinsel-town's liberals, Michael Moore.

The plot revolves around an arrogant leftist filmmaker, played by Farley (taking on the role of "Michael Malone"), who wants to abolish the Fourth of July holiday. Before he can do so, however, he is visited by the Angel of Death (Adkins) and the spirits of Gen. George C. Patton (Grammar) and George Washington (Voigt), who set out to show him the true meaning of America.

With the timing of the movie coming just one month before the presidential election, it's bound to have an impact beyond the box office.

Bravo, Hollywood conservatives! Welcome to the conversation!

The trailer is meant to just hit the basic, slapstick humor and doesn’t expose much of the satire in the plot of the film – and yes, the film has a plot. (Not so subtly copied from Dickens, by the way.)

I’ve been following many of the comments all over the web and find it hilarious that the left is so offended. One comment asked if “librul commies” were ever slave owners and why this movie portrayed them as such. The answer is, yes, “libruls” were slave owners in the American past, just as conservatives were. And some would argue that “commies” are slave owners — or at least slave users — by definition.

For those of you so offended that you wish to leave the country on Opening Day (October 3rd), I encourage you to do so. And, please consider staying out of country until the movie’s run is complete, which probably will be sometime in mid-November.

Further protests by ignoring this year’s election would also be appreciated and respected!
