From Manson to Adkisson: Wingnuts Aren't Conservative or Liberal ...

Thursday July 31, 2008
Charles Manson, left, and Jim Adkisson

They're Just Wingnuts

Too often, those on the left seem to believe that radically right-wing commentators like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage represent the complex ideologies of the conservative movement.

They don't.

Liberals appear to think that mainstream conservatives buy into everything Ann Coulter has to say, and agree with everything spewed forth by Bill O’Reilly, as though they are the standard bearers of an angry movement full of angry people.

They aren't. They're just the loudest.

I don't often do this, but here's my response to the jabbering liberals who irresponsibly tie Jim Adkisson, the Tennessee Valley church shooter, to the conservative movement.

Charles Manson was not a liberal. He was a classic authoritarian, patriarchal figure. His main theme was of a coming apocalyptic race war. He was as Right Wing as you can get. His followers are famous for the Sharon Tate slaughter, where a group of Left Wing celebrities were butchered.

You had to go back half a century to come up with an inept example.
