A Look Back At 2007
Wednesday January 2, 2008
Well, 2007 has come and gone, and after scanning a host of conservative websites and talking to a variety of conservatives about the year's biggest news stories, I've finally settled on the Top 10 Conservative Stories of 2007. I hope the wait was worth it.
There are a few surprises, along with a a few obvious choices. One of the difficulties in compiling a list like this is its subjective nature. No two top 10 lists are the same, especially when it comes to political stories. Undoubtedly, this list won't be the same as other lists compiled by other websites dedicated to conservative news and politics. To that end, I've done my best to provide an understandable rationale for a particular story's inclusion, as well as provide a quick recap of what the story was about.
Since most people are familiar with the stories included here -- either because of their widespread recognizability or because I've written about them in some way, shape or form here at About.com -- I tried not to go into too much detail. After all, part of the reason these stories are in the top 10 in the first place is because they were so widely reported.
One final note: Don't expect every story in the top 10 list to be wrapped up in a neat little package. Many of them are not resolved, and may not even be resolved in 2008. Others may become even bigger stories and perhaps make next year's top 10 list. Stay tuned next week as I offer my top 10 predictions for US conservative politics in 2008.
